Austin has never been shy about welcoming a crowd. Music weekends, football games, conferences, weddings, tech events, and ordinary Tuesday business trips all keep the city’s hotels moving. Now Austin is making room for even more visitors.
Visit Austin reports roughly 15,000 hotel rooms downtown and 51,000 citywide as of February 2026. Hotels already under construction are expected to lift those totals to 15,984 downtown and 52,652 across the Austin market by the end of the year.
Growth you can see—and work in
Downtown is doing much of the building. The Downtown Austin Alliance counts 695 hotel rooms under construction, with another 1,818 planned or proposed. Its latest hospitality snapshot placed downtown occupancy at 69% and the average daily room rate at $260.50 in the second quarter of 2026.
Those numbers matter, but hotel growth is not really about keys and towers. A new property needs front desk agents who can rescue a rough arrival, housekeepers who notice the details, engineers who keep everything humming, cooks who can handle the Saturday rush, and managers who know how to turn a group of hires into a team.
The next wave is already taking shape
The city is also rebuilding the Austin Convention Center. The project is designed to expand rentable space from 365,000 to 620,000 square feet. City projections say the completed center could add $285 million in annual economic impact and support more than 1,600 additional hospitality and tourism jobs.
Construction and convention schedules will make the market uneven at times; growth is rarely a straight line. Still, the direction is easy to see. Austin is creating more places to stay—and more chances for hospitality people to find the property, position, and team where they belong.
